| Job Description : | Overview The Denver Post seeks an innovative digital thinker who will focus on driving audience engagement and growth as a digital strategist. The ideal candidate has strong digital production and social media skills, experience with newsletters and mobile push alerts, good news judgment and experience in breaking news situations. This is a great opportunity to join a dynamic digital team and work in a newsroom that has embraced digital subscription growth. Our preferred candidate is technically savvy with some web development experience. Initially this job is a remote/work from home position. The candidate should be available to relocate to Colorado where he or she will be able to enjoy the Rocky Mountain lifestyle, 300 days of sun each year, all five major pro sports leagues and world-class dining and entertainment options. Responsibilities Work with teams to define their target audiences and identify and implement strategies to reach that audience. Help teams identify their content mission and work with those teams to gear content that aims to convert readers into paying digital subscribers Help teams create audience goals and be accountable to those goals Work with teams to regularly review content performance metrics and revise coverage, production and distribution strategies to drive continued improvement in KPIs. Work closely with reporters and editors to help frame enterprise stories from initial idea stage to reach and maximize defined audience. Train colleagues in all production practices, including CMS, SEO and social best practices. Audit content to ensure every story meets necessary digital production standards. Plan distribution for content in available channels, including newsletters, email alerts, mobile pushes and section fronts. Develop and execute a clear plan for deploying effective and informative editorial newsletters across the publication(s) Take over ownership of team’s social channels and work closely to promote the publication’s work. Study social media, other publications and institutions to find trending stories and topics to aggregate or refer to reporters. Keep team abreast of the changes in search, social and emerging technologies. Write or edit news stories as needed. Qualifications 3+ years of experience at daily newspaper or digital news site College degree or equivalent experience Steady hand during breaking news events Demonstrated passion for using social media to engage audiences and expand reach, especially on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram Strong knowledge of Search Engine Optimization Deep understanding and focus on web analytics using tools like Parse.ly, Chartbeat and Google Analytics Self-starter who is eager to learn and develop new skills Strong news judgment Knowledge of digital storytelling tools, such as timelines, maps, crowdsourcing, etc. Ability to handle multiple tasks, including editing, reporting or rewriting as needed Ability to collaborate effectively with reporters, editors, photographers and videographers Ability to effectively meet deadlines, work accurately and handle breaking news Strong appreciation for the web and digital news Works well independently and within a team; fosters a cooperative work environment. Employs a diplomatic temperament and fosters a cooperative work environment Excellent editing skills, including headline writing Strong copy editing and grammar skills Knowledge of HTML and CSS Strong knowledge of AP Style Ability to work occasional late shifts Ability to work weekend shifts Preferred Knowledge of WordPress The hourly wage for Colorado residents is $19.70 – $33.40.
